Shape, Line, & Texture...

During my first year and my first class at Brooks there is an assignment given to all students taking their first class. The assignment is called "Shape, Line, Texture." We were told to take our 35mm SLR cameras (shooting film) and go out and create images within this broad parameter. I liked this assignment. I laugh now thinking that I took it as a sign that my future assignments were all going to be this easy and this cool. All I had to do was walk around and find cool shapes, lines, and textures? I did that all the time anyway...

I recently went on a hike here in Los Angeles. Los Liones off of Sunset Blvd. My husband and I took our 2 year old daughter with us. When you hike with a toddler you tend to meander instead of hike up the trail. You get plenty of time to "enjoy the view" while coaxing and cajoling your toddler to keep going...up the hill. During my meandering I came across this dried spot of earth. We had recently had some rain so the ground was muddy in this low spot on the trail and had just dried and now begun to crack. It reminded me of the desert. I LOVED the textures so I snapped two images with my Blackberry Curve. While the resolution isn't huge the image still makes an impact. I processed both with Lightroom3.

Enjoy...

Mother's Milk Commissioned Portraits

I am now offering private portrait sessions exclusively to nursing mothers!

This is the next evolution of this project to promote breastfeeding as well as extended breastfeeding in our culture. These new images I will create will be added to my already extensive library of nursing mother portraits.

It is my intention to create a 2nd book with these new portraits I will be shooting in the coming weeks and months. I am still seeking a gallery to exhibit this series as well as publish in book format.

If you are a nursing mother or know a woman who would be interested in participating in this project please share this website.

The portrait package includes a private in-home session, and on-line gallery (for viewing, sharing, and selecting) and 3 images of your choice and size up to 11x14. Click here to take you to the webpage with more details and a link to purchase your session today. Once I receive payment I will contact you to schedule your photo shoot. It's that easy!

You can also find us on Facebook.

I look forward to creating a unique piece of fine art for you and your family to cherise for years to come.

Thank you,

Amy

More Nursing Mother Portraits!

It's been over a year since I finished the first set of portraits in my nursing mother series called "Mother's Milk, A Sacred Journey". After I finished photographing the mothers who agreed to be a part of my project I began designing a book. I self published this book last summer through Blurb and it is currently still available for sale at Blurb starting at $27.95.

I was a nursing mother when I started this project. My daughter Ella was 8 months old. I am still a nursing mother today and my daughter is 2 years and 3 month old.

I was my intention to somehow find a way to continue this project that is so near and dear to my heart. One of the reasons for doing this series is to bring awareness to extended breast feeding in our American culture. Another is simply to capture a precious and fleeting time of motherhood. No matter how long you choose to nurse your baby that time is so short in comparison to the rest of their lives. Having a portrait to cherish will last forever.

I will be launching a portrait package for nursing mothers in the LA and Orange County areas to comission your very own portrait done in the privacy of your home.

Stay tuned for pricing details coming in the next few days!
